BOTTLE BANK
Privacy Policy
Last updated 4 September 2026
Bottle Bank helps a child count returnable bottles and track what they are saving up for. It is built to need as little information as possible: signing up takes a name you choose and a four-digit PIN — no email address, no advertising and no third-party tracking in the app.
What we store
- The name you choose — for example “Adam”. You pick it yourself and it does not have to be a real name.
- Your 4-digit PIN, stored only as a cryptographic hash (scrypt with a random salt). We cannot read your PIN, and we cannot recover it for you if it is forgotten.
- Your saved bottles — the date of each scan, the deposit value, and the barcode number that was scanned.
- Your wish list and savings goal — the item names and prices you enter.
What we do not collect
- No email address, phone number, postal address or real name.
- No location data. Barcodes are read on your device; no position is recorded.
- No photographs or video. The camera is used only to read a barcode in the moment, and nothing from the camera is stored or transmitted.
- No advertising identifiers, and no analytics or tracking software inside the app.
How the camera is used
The app asks for camera access so it can read the barcode on a bottle. The camera preview is processed on your device to find the barcode digits. Only those digits are saved, alongside the deposit amount. No image ever leaves your device.
Where it is stored
Your bottles, wishes and goal are saved on your device and, so they survive reinstalling the app or moving to a new phone, on our server. The server is a hosted PostgreSQL database operated by Neon and reached through our application on Vercel. Access requires the session established when you sign in with your name and PIN.
Sharing
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising or marketing. It is shared only with the hosting providers above, who process it solely to run the service on our behalf. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
Children
This app is intended for children to use, which is exactly why it asks for so little. It does not collect personal details, contains no advertising, has no social features, and no way to message anyone or to reach content outside the app. Everything can be deleted from inside the app at any time, as described below.
Keeping and deleting your information
Your information is kept for as long as your profile exists. You can delete it yourself at any time: open the app, scroll to Grown-up corner, tap Delete my profileand confirm with your PIN. That removes the profile and every bottle, wish and goal saved with it, both on the device and on our server, immediately and permanently. If you would rather we did it, email hello@nexauva.de with the name on the profile. Note that deleting the app alone removes only the copy on your device.
Your rights
If you are in the EU or UK you may ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it. Write to hello@nexauva.de and we will respond within 30 days.
The website
The Bottle Bank website, unlike the app, uses Vercel Analytics to count page views. It records no cookies and no identifiers that single you out.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page.
